Reports now have superstar Mark Wahlberg in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Lone Survivor movie. The movie based on U.S. Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s best-selling book is slated to begin filming this Fall under the guidance of director Peter Berg.
Reportedly, the 40-year-old Wahlberg is being considered for the lead role of Luttrell himself. However, it seems much more logical that the 5’8″ Wahlberg would play the role of Lt. Michael Murphy rather than the 6’4″ Luttrell. Wahlberg also bears somewhat of a resemblance to the Medal of Honor Recipient as the photo below shows. It’s also possible that Wahlberg could be involved as a producer on the film as well.
It was also announced that Ben Foster is in talks to join the cast of the Lone Survivor Movie. Foster, who has starred in films such as 3:10 to Yuma, Contraband and The Mechanic would almost certainly be cast as Navy SEAL Matt Axelson. Facially, the two bear a strong resemblance although the 5’9″ Foster is much smaller in stature than Matt Axelson.
Peter Berg told Deadline last year, “Bin Laden’s death has cleared the way for this, a movie that will be an unapologetically patriotic film that honors and pays homage to an incredible group of bad-ass guys who do this. The film will be a bit like Black Hawk Down, but it will focus on the quartet, which is fewer guys than that film.”
Compare the photos below and see what you think. Taylor Kitsch seems to be more of a fit for the role of Luttrell than Wahlberg. If not, it’s likely he would assume the role of Danny Dietz.
